(Photos) Morton Grove's Posthenge

I've run past the cement posts shown below over a thousand times. You'll find them on North Branch Trail in the Linne Woods Forest Preserve, just behind Park View School.

Thanks to the Forgotten Chicago Facebook group, I found out how Morton Grove's "Posthenge" got there.

Morton Grove's principal business concern before the Great Depression was wholesale flowers. The largest florist, Poehlmann Brothers, employed hundreds of people. In 1904, the Poehlmann Rose captured first prize at the 1904 St. Louis World Fair. According to Images of America--Morton Grove, the cement cylindrical posts were once supports for Poehlmann Brothers flower beds.

Here's a closeup of one of the posts:

Poehlmann Brothers Company didn't survive the economic turmoil of the 1930s, but its miniature Stonehenge remains.
