On this day in 1964: Reagan's "A Time for Choosing" speech

It was on October 27, 1964 when Ronald Reagan made perhaps the greatest political debut in American history when he gave his "A Time for Choosing" address on behalf of the Barry Goldwater presidential campaign.

"You and I have a rendevous with destiny," he told the television audience.

He also declared, "You and I are told we must choose between a left or right, but I suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There is only an up or down. Up to man's age-old dream – the maximum of individual freedom consistent with order – or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism."

So true, so true...
