Fall colors at the Middle Fork Savanna Forest Preserve

The fall colors are a little disappointing this year in the Chicago area. So I am going to dig into the archives for some 2011 photographs I took at the Middle Fork Savanna Forest Preserve in Lake Forest, Illinois.

The savanna gets its name because the wetlands there feed the Middle Fork of the North Branch of the Chicago River. Downstream the river passes through Morton Grove--where I live.

There are those wetlands.

Farther down the path.

One of several cottonwood groves there.

A great tree of the Midwest--the bur oak.
