Last time Obama gave an economic speech in Galesburg--IL jobless rate was 5.9%--now it's 9.2%

1916 Reagan home, Galesburg
The last time Barack Obama came to Galesburg--a Ronald Reagan Trail town--was in June of 2005 and the unemployment rate was 5.9 percent.

In his book, The Audacity of Hope, then-Senator Obama bemoaned the economic state of the historic western Illinois city.

Obama will give another speech today as he--once again--redirects his thoughts on the economy. Oh, by the way, how many times as he done that?

Illinois' current jobless rate is 9.2 percent. Obama has been president for four-and-half years. Where is the recovery? When onetime Galesburg resident Reagan was president, the economy was soaring just three years after being sworn in. The Gipper inherited Jimmy Carter's malaise.

Hat tip to Dan Proft of WLS-AM for mentioning this fact on his show this morning.

Oh, Dr. Loyal Davis, Nancy Reagan's adopted father, was born in Galesburg.
