ILL-inois: Ex-Chicago alderman ruled unfit to stand trial on gun charge

Chicago, ILL-inois
Illinois sure knows how to elect dysfunctional public officials, such as Sharon Dixon. But at least the residents of the impoverished West Side 24th Ward had the good sense to throw her out two years ago.

In 2009, Dixon was arrested for DUI--but the charges were later dropped. As "proof' of her sobriety, Dixon said that she didn't have to use the bathroom during the seven hours she was in police custody.

In May she ended up on the wrong side of the law again.

From CBS 2 Chicago:
A Cook County judge Friday ruled Former Ald. Sharon Dixon (24th) unfit to stand trial on charges alleging she approached Chicago Police officers outside the 10th district with a loaded gun last spring.

Dixon, 50, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and possessing a firearm without a license for the May 4 incident.

On Friday, Judge Diane Canon ruled Dixon unfit to stand trial and she was remanded to the Illinois Department of Human Services for an evaluation, according to Cook County State's Attorney;s office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton.

Prosecutors said several hours before the officers say they saw her with a weapon, Dixon had been walking in and out of the police station, in the 3300 block of West Ogden.
After the alleged incident Dixon was taken to a nearby hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
