Detroit west: It has been 456 days since Quinn said he was "put on earth" to fix Illinois pensions

There are many reason Detroit was compelled to file for bankruptcy yesterday--but staggering public-pension debt is one of them. The onetime Motor City, like Illinois of late, has been run by Democrats who can't bring themselves to say "No" to the public-sector unions who stuff their campaign treasuries with cash.

Meanwhile, it has been 456 days since Governor Pat Quinn declared he was "put on earth" to fix Illinois' woefully underfunded public pensions. Quinn and his fellow Democrats have only dithered since then.

Chicago Blackhawks fans who chant "Detroit sucks" when the Red Wings are in town shouldn't be so cocky.
