I visited the Openlands Lakeshore Preserve at Fort Sheridan in Highland Park, Illinois on Thursday--and now you can see what America's largest lake looks like after a cold snap.
That's the look from the top of a bluff. The white strip two-thirds of the way up is ice.
But there is ice on the edge of the water too.
Frozen mushrooms? Uh, no. There are many old wooden pilings from long-vanished piers at Fort Sheridan.
A lonely tree stands guard.
The orange sign reads, "No Swimming."

Great Photo's. I don't miss the Chicago winters at all.
