Jesse's machine is broken: Sandi Jackson quits Chicago City Council

A year ago the Reverend Jesse Jackson was the de facto chairman of a South Side Chicago political machine. His son, Jesse Junior, was a congressman for the area. Junior's wife, Sandi, was the alderman of Chicago's 7th Ward. She was also the committeeman of that ward.

But Junior's health and legal problems led to his resignation from Congress late last year. And this afternoon, Sandi, who lives with her husband in Washington, informed Mayor Rahm Emanuel that she is resigning her City Council seat. She maintains her party post, at least for now.

Jesse's machine is broken.
