My brother-in-law in the Soviet Army in front of the Stalingrad statue

On the right is my later brother-in-law, Harijs Ēcetājs, while he was serving in the Soviet Army. Behind him is one of Russia's best known statues, the Motherland Calls, which commemorates the Battle of Stalingrad.

The photograph was taken sometime around 1964. The statue wasn't officially dedicated until three years later.

Harijs must have been on leave when this picture was taken--he was stationed in Brest, Belarus during his time in the army.
