Leonard Nimoy: Ballad of Bilbo Baggins

As William Shatner did, Leonard Nimoy took some bad advice and recorded a pop album in the 1960s.

One of Spock's songs was "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins," who of course is the hero of The Hobbit.

This video is more bizarre than the song--which is a real space oddity. Or better yet, a Middle-Earth oddity.

Nimoy has his Spock haircut here and the video looks like it was filmed on one of those desert-planet sets used on the TV show. But he's missing the pointed ears. However, the dancing girls--or are they Hobbits or Elves?--have pointed ears.

File this song under it's so bad it's brilliant.

The cinematography here doesn't quite come up to the level of Peter Jackson's work.
