Politico hit piece on Romney: But Reagan stumbled out of the '80 RNC

Left-leaning Politico is making a big deal about "How Mitt stumbled" at the Republican National Convention. Ugh. Has Politico forgotten about Obama's flat acceptance speech? Or the DNC tussle over putting God and declaring that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel in its platform?

And once again, I have to return to Ronald Reagan's historic crushing of Jimmy Carter in 1980. The RNC that year ended badly for the Gipper. It was announced on the convention's third night that Gerald Ford had agreed to be Reagan's running mate. Or perhaps not. But the media reported that Ford had accepted--yet by the end of night it was George H.W. Bush who was Reagan's veep pick.

Reagan-Bush won 44 states that fall.

While there may have been a minor bump for the Dems that the GOP didn't enjoy, that can be explained by the Democrats not only having the last say, but also that their gathering started just four days after the conclusion of the RNC.
