Where is Jesse Jr? His office denies suicide attempt

Jesse Jackson Jr. official portrait,
somewhat altered
Earlier this afternoon it was suggested on WLS-AM's Roe & Roeper Show that the unexplained absence of Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. is because of a suicide attempt. However, a senior aide to the South Side congressmen, anonymously spoke with ABC News who denied that report and claims that Junior is truly suffering from exhaustion, which is of course a common feint used by Hollywood types for things such as substance abuse and mental health issues.

Yesterday Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) called for Junior to step forward and tell his constituents what he is being treated for. This afternoon Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) issued the same call.

This story is the opposite of the Costa Concordia shipwreck. As long as the ship sits on its side at sea--it's a story. And as long as Jackson keeps us in the dark about what he is being treated for--it's a story.

However, former House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) defended Junior's silence.

With that attitude, it's easy to understand how Hoyer got to be the former majority leader.
