Values? In corrupt Chicago? A Chick-fil-A may not open because it does not have "Chicago values"

Chicago's unemployment rate is 9.8 percent. But Mayor Rahm Emanuel and some alderman seem determined to block the opening of a second Chick-fil-A in Chicago. Because its CEO, Dan Cathy, supports the "biblical definition" of marriage,  the restaurant may not be built because Cathy doesn't support what Rahm calls "Chicago values." Oddly enough, Cathy never condemned gay marriage. And until two months ago, President Obama, who Emanuel used to work for, was on record as opposing same-sex couples being able to marry.

Let's return to "Chicago values."  What values? Since 1973, thirty one Chicago aldermen have been convicted of criminal activity, which translates to roughly one jailbird every 18 months.

Who are you, Rahm, to wave your finger about values?

Most of these aldermanic crimes have centered around zoning issues. Fact: Chicago's arcane zoning laws are in place to advance graft--both legal (yet sleazy) forms such as campaign contributions and the hiring of relatives and cronies of the politically-connected by the favor seekers, and illegal, such as bribes.

And it's the abuse of zoning laws that may doom the new Chicago Chick fil-A.

Chicago has an inspector general, but that office is prohibited from investigating aldermen or their staffs. Which is just how the those 'public servants' want it. The new Chick-fil-A would open in the ward of Ald. Proco "Joe" Moreno, who is the leading City Council opponent of the restaurant. The next time Moreno speaks out against Chick-fil-A, a reporter should ask him about his position on expanding the powers of the IG office.

Here's a biblical value from the Ten Commandments: Thou shall not steal. Bribery is a form of theft--the public trust is betrayed.

Next month a Chick-fil-A will open in northwest suburban Crystal Lake. It's a jobs-creating and kids-friendly restaurant where a Hooters once stood.

But Rahm has reached out to that anti-Semitic hate monger, Louis Farrakhan, to help turn back Chicago's soaring murder rate. Farrakhan, by the way, opposes gay marriage.
