California approves billions it doesn't have for high-speed rail it doesn't need

Functionally-bankrupt California just approved billions of dollars to build a high-speed rail line between San Francisco and Los Angeles. The feds are kicking in billions more.

The first part of the line won't be anywhere near the two cites. It will connect Bakersfield and Medera in the Central Valley. But both cities have car rental agencie--so you can rent a vehicle to drive to SF or LA.

You noticed that I didn't include any dollar figures in this article. It's not because of laziness on my part. I have two reasons: First, government always underestimates the cost of major capital projects, and second, the environmental radicals will find plenty of reasons why the rail line shouldn't be built.

It's a bad day for fiscal sanity, but a great one for lawyers who specialize in environmental litigation.

  1. These people behave like gambling addicts. No need to cut back, since one more spin of the wheel and they will hit the jackpot. The also behave like addicts when confronted. Nobody is as smart as they are, and nobody has a right to a different opinion.
