Occupy carnage in Pittsburgh: Bank to spend half million to refurbish private park

The repairing the carnage caused by the Occupy movement continues.

From Pittsburgh Trib Live:
BNY Mellon plans to restore Mellon Green, which Occupy Pittsburgh protesters marred when they turned the private green into a winter camp.

The Downtown park's makeover will come with security features including a post-and-chain perimeter fence, steel gates at entry points and plaques stating that the park is closed between dusk and dawn, said Bill Schademan, BNY's vice president in charge of corporate real estate.

The city Planning Commission reviewed the plans for the first time at a briefing today. Its members could vote to accept or reject the plans as soon as July 10.

BNY Mellon plans to spend $485,000 on the project, Schademan said.
More from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
Lane Cigna, a BNY Mellon spokeswoman, said she could not give a timetable for the reopening of the park, located at Sixth Avenue and Grant Street, adding that the bank is focused "on working through the city's approval process."

She also declined to provide details on the restoration itself, saying that BNY Mellon wanted the planning commission to hear them first. She added the plan "restores the integrity, beauty and security of BNY Mellon Green."

BNY Mellon already has removed old soil compacted by the protesters and their encampment, which included tents, and replaced it with new top soil. It also has made repairs to the park's irrigation system.
