McConnell, Johnson, slam ObamaCare in post-SCOTUS decision bloggers' call

In a bloggers' conference call held earlier this afternoon, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) had this to say about ObamaCare. "This law was sold to the American people on a deception," McConnell offered. "The president of the United States promised up and down--multiple times--that the bill was not a tax. Clearly the Supreme Court has resolved this issue--the only basis on which it was upheld was that it is a tax," he added.

McConnell, citing the unpopularity of ObamaCare, vowed to take up the repeal of the bill as his first item of business if he is elevated to majority leader next year.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI)
Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) agreed with McConnell that the American people were deceived about the true nature of ObamaCare. Of the bill he predicted, "It will lower the quality of healthcare, it will result in rationing, it will limit the type of innovation that has saved millions of Americans' lives--and oh, by the way--it will further bankrupt the country." He summarized his point this way: "We simply cannot afford this very bad law."

In the question-and-answer session, the Wisconsin freshman warned that many employers will end up dropping health care coverage of their workers. These employees will be eligible for federal subsidies that will add "hundreds of billions of dollars per year to the [cost] of the health care law." He concluded, "This is a budgetary disaster waiting to happen."

Prior to making that case, Johnson reminded us that Obama promised that consumers could keep their current health care coverage if they wanted to do so.

Businesses may just decide to forgo the red tape, Johnson reasoned, and let the state-run exchanges provide coverage.

Johnson knows what he is talking about--he's a former CEO.
