Oops: Thompson, stimulus critic, kicks off WI Senate campaign at firm that rec'd stimulus cash

Former Health and Human Services Secretary and Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson will officially launch his US Senate campaign at Weldall Manufacturing in Waukesha, which is near Milwaukee. The Republican has been a critic of the stimulus boondoggle, but the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is reporting today that the firm has received $300,000 in stimulus funds.

The paper retrieved this poorly written description of that stimulus project:
This program continued to fund projects in the manufacturing sector that conserve existing energy resources, ensure efficient use of available energy and develop new energy sources while protecting the quality of the environment.
From the Journal Sentinel:
"Does that sound like a conservative?" Thompson shouted at a Capitol rally last year in which he was criticizing then-Sen. Russ Feingold. "Then he said, 'Oh, but I vote against earmarks.' Well, he voted, ladies and gentlemen, for the stimulus package that had 8,000 earmarks in it!"
Democrat Herb Kohl, the incumbent, is retiring and the GOP is looking at this seat as a possible flip for the Republicans.
