Ron Paul's Shangri-La: Another straw poll win

You've reached your top and you can't just get any higher.
The Kinks, "Shangri-La," 1969.

The latest ballot-stuffing exercise of the Ron Paul supporters is the Illinois GOP presidential straw poll. Out of 3,649 votes cast, the Texas congressman won 52 percent. Mitt Romney was second with 35 percent. But of the internet votes, the Paul-stuffers hogged two-thirds of the votes.

Ron Paul will not win the Illinois Primary in March, he will not be the Republican nominee for president next year, he will not serve in the cabinet of the next GOP commander-in-chief. But his well-organized supporters are skilled in leveraging their modest numbers to perform well in straw polls and caucuses.

An impressive ability, yes, but it is of dubious value in any other arena.

Still, Ron Paul is in his Shangri-La.
