Ann-Margaret: "Christmas" from Tommy

The beautiful Ann-Margaret, who grew up on Chicago's North Shore, performed wondrously in the uneven Tommy, the movie version of the Who's rock opera. The song "Christmas" sums up the film perfectly, Ann, who plays Tommy's mother, is great, Oliver Reed awful--wow, he plays a drunk--note that I didn't use the verb "act" here.

Earlier in the film, Tommy becomes blind after witnessing Reed kill his father--it's my belief that the eponymous character lost his hearing after listening to the legendary drunk sing.

Later in the film, the Who's Roger Daltrey plays the grown-up Tommy--where he is the same age as his mother.

UPDATE November 28: The director of Tommy, Ken Russell, died yesterday. He was 84.
