Fire Prevention Week begins; don't forget to thank firefighters for what they do

Morton Grove Volunteer Fire
Department Monument
Fire Prevention Week begins today. Not only is it an opportune time to think about fire safety, consider thanking our brave firefighters who put their lives on the line every day they show up to work.

The second week of October was chosen for Fire Prevention Week to coincide with the October 8 anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire in 1871. On that same day, Peshtigo, Wisconsin was destroyed by a fire--killing far more people.
