Interim White Sox manager fired by text message

Yesterday White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen quit/was fired. Joey Cora, a coach for the South Siders, was named as interim manager last night for the final two games.

But Cora was dismissed earlier today by general manager Kenny Williams--by text message.

Just before Christmas in 1976, Chicago Blackhawks coach Billy Reay, who won a lot of games for the 'hawks, was fired when a note slipped under his door. Jerry Reinsdorf is the principal owner of the White Sox, as he is for the Chicago Bulls. They fired head coaches Tim Floyd and Scott Skiles on Christmas Eve.

Chicago misfires on firings.
