Five Dem Cook County commissioners refuse to take pay cut they voted for

"I am sick and tired of subsidizing crooks." 2010 Republican candidate for Cook County Board President Roger Keats, announcing his move to Texas.

The Cook County Board unanimously approved a budget that includes 10 furlough days for county employees--which of course means a pay cut--but five Democratic commissioners, William Beavers, Patricia Murphy, Deborah Sims, Robert Steele, and Earlean Collins--refuse to accept that "haircut."

County Board President, Toni Preckwinkle--also a Democrat, will accept the furlough.

Cook County, where I live, includes Chicago and it is he nation's second-most populous county. That budget stipulates that Cook's 23,000 workers are subject to the 10 day layoff.

But five of our elected "public servants" are above this indignity.

UPDATE September 24: Three of the five commissioners have decided to accept the paycut. The remaining two, William Beavers and Earlean Collins, so far are not backing down.
