Cow parsnip

I'm not sure how cow parsnip, a member of the parley family, got its name, but since it can grow to be 9 feet high, I suppose it's possible that someone quipped that it's a big as a cow. The leaves are large, as our the blossoms. This bloom, which I photographed in Skokie's Harms Woods, was four inches wide.
