Statement by Pawlenty in response to Jay Carney's comments to White House press pool

"If you want Medicare to go away, you just don't do anything. Because it's going to go away on its own." Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), May 25, 2011.

President Obama doesn't want to do anything, which led Tim Pawlenty, who wants to replace him, to quip on Twitter, "@BarackObama sorry to interrupt the European pub crawl, but what was your Medicare plan?"

And it appears Obama's "plan" involves Medicare to go away. In a defensive pose, possibly in response to the former Minnesota governor's Tweet, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told the White House press corps that the president has "put forth a serious deficit reduction plan."

Here is Pawlenty's statement on Obama's "serious" plan:

You have to drink a lot of Guinness before President Obama's budget starts to look "balanced" and "serious." The White House has no problem attacking conservatives who have the courage to propose plans to save Medicare, but then the president shrinks from the fight when the tables are turned. It's pretty sad that one funny Tweet is all that's needed to expose President Obama's irresponsible hypocrisy.
