Rep. Roskam Votes to use American energy to lower gas prices

The last time I filled my gas tank I paid $4.54-a-gallon. Meanwhile, Rep. Peter Roskam of Wheaton is one of the members of Congress who is doing something about soaring gasoline prices.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Peter Roskam (R-IL), Chief Deputy Whip, issued the following statement after House Republicans passed a bill today that would lower gas prices, energy costs and reduce our dependence on foreign oil, the Restarting American Offshore Leasing Now Act.

Illinois families and businesses are struggling from skyrocketing gas prices and are looking for action to lower prices and ensure America becomes less dependent on foreign energy. I congratulate the House for taking action to re-start energy projects that have been cancelled or delayed by the Obama Administration. With a gallon of gas more than $4.50 in Chicagoland today, we must safely utilize our natural resources to lower gas prices and create jobs. White House energy policies have cost American jobs and forced prices to rise. Americans can't afford these policies anytime, but especially during a painful recession. I urge Senate Democrats and the White House to join us so we can lower gas prices, create jobs, and reduce our dependence on foreign energy.

Note: The Restarting American Offshore Leasing Now Act would require the Secretary of Interior to move forward with offshore lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico and Virginia that were delayed or canceled by the Obama Administration.
