Opening statements in Blago retrial could begin Monday

The pool of potential jurors in the retrial of disgraced former Governor Rod Blagojevich is down to 45. They are off for the weekend. Meanwhile, the attorneys on both sides will work on the peremptory challenges to some of these jurors--and of course their opening arguments--which could commence Monday afternoon.

With the exception of a conviction for lying to a federal official, the jury was deadlocked on the other counts in the first Blago trial. A lone holdout was the hair-brained one's guardian angel.

And Illinois continues to suffer from Blagojevich's disastrous six years as governor. According to Pew Center report, the Prairie State ranks dead last in funding its workers pensions.
