Utah groups sue over Interior's anti-energy "wild lands" policy

Two days before Christmas last year, Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar announced the "wild lands" policy that will likely prevent oil and gas drilling in millions of acres of western land.

Utahns are particularly sensitive to federal land grabs. In 1996 President Bill Clinton utilized the Antiquities Act to create the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, which blocks energy development from almost two million acres of land in southern Utah.

Two Utah groups are suing to block Salazar's move. Their lawsuit contends that only Congress can create designations such as "wild lands."
