Schilling introduces legislation to keep detainees at Gitmo

A House freshman, Republican Bobby Schilling of Illinois has been quite busy in Washington, as this press release attests:

Washington D.C. – Rep. Schilling along with Chairman Buck McKeon and several other colleagues on the House Armed Services Committee introduced the Detainee Security Act of 2011. The comprehensive legislation would create certain restrictions which would make it tougher for detainees to return to the battlefield or share information with other terrorists and would permanently block funding for the creation or renovation of any facility in the United States to house detainees currently held at Guantanamo Bay. If passed this legislation would ensure no detainees could be transferred to Thomson IL.

Rep. Schilling said, "I am working with Chairmen McKeon to introduce this legislation that will handle the detainees and specifically stops funding for the construction or modification of any facilities in the United States to house Guantanamo detainees. In other words, this legislation would mean no detainees in Thomson IL or anywhere in the United States, its territories or possessions ---- except in Guantanamo Bay."
The proposed "Gitmo North" facility in Thomson is just outside Schilling's western Illinois district.
