Tom Waits: In The Neighborhood

Last week's Saturday musical selection was Peter Gabriel singing Tom Waits' "In The Neighborhood." Today we see Tom Waits' video performance of the song that is part dirge, part victory march.

Strange characters inhabit Waits' work--so this seems to be the type of neighborhood he would live in.

The video was directed by Haskell Wexler, a two-time Academy Award winner in cinematography. He won for Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf? and Bound for Glory. Haskell's birthday is tomorrow, he'll be 85.
