SEIU called out on ObamaCare waivers

"So I owe those unions. When their leaders call, I do my best to call them back right away." Barack Obama, The Audacity of Hope.

And the payback continues for the unions. For example, SEIU, which has been allied with Obama since his 2004 Senate primary run, was an ardent supporter of ObamaCare. But if it's so grand, why is it seeking ObamaCare waivers?

From The Hill:

SEIU's outspoken defense of the law has prompted charges of hypocrisy from Republicans, given that some of the union's chapters have sought waivers exempting them from the law.

Several SEIU chapters have secured waivers, including SEIU's Local 25, which insures 31,000 workers in Chicago, as well as SEIU Local 300, which insures 2,000 workers in New York, and the 1199 SEIU Greater New York Benefit Fund, which includes about 4,500 enrollees.

A spokesman for SEIU referred questions about the union waivers to a fact sheet on its website.

According to SEIU, the overwhelming majority of its members are covered by health plans that comply with the law's requirements.
