One congressional win that seemingly came out of nowhere for the Republican Party was Bobby Schilling's defeat of Phil Hare in Illinois' 17th District. Hare ran unopposed in 2008. The Gerrymandered 17th was designed to elect a Democrat. Schilling is quite likely the only pizzeria owner in Congress.
