Anne Leary was there when Senator-elect Mark Kirk met with supporters at the headquarters of the New Trier Township GOP. Kirk plans to revive the Golden Fleece Award, which was given out by William Proxmire, a longtime Democratic senator from Wisconsin.
The award was used by Proxmire to draw attention to wasteful government spending.
On Monday Kirk will be sworn in to fill the remaining weeks of Barack Obama's six-year term. It's time for Roland Burris, the Rod Blagojevich-appointee who has held that seat since early 2009, to pack his bags.
This will be the first time I've had a Republican legislator represent me at any level of government since Obama replaced Senator Peter Fitzgerald in 2005.
