Iranian woman could be stoned for adultery at any moment

"In particular, I would like to speak directly to the people and leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Nowruz [New Day] is just one part of your great and celebrated culture. Over many centuries your art, your music, literature and innovation have made the world a better and more beautiful place." Barack Obama, March 20, 2009.

There will be nothing beautiful about the stoning of an Iranian woman convicted of adultery, which could happen at any moment.

Sakineh Mohammadie Ashtiani, a mother of two, confessed to adultery after receiving 99 lashes. If the stoning is carried out--international pressure is probably her only hope from preventing that from happening--she will be buried up to her waist, and a crowd of savages will throw rocks at her until she bleeds to death.

Three months ago the United Nations took time out of its busy-Israel bashing schedule to elect Iran to its Commission on Women's Rights.

Shakespeare famously scribed, "All the world's a stage," but the play has become a Theatre of the Absurd. I wonder if Obama agrees with me.
