Obama visit to green factory costs workers green--an unpaid day off

President Obama traveled to San Francisco last night for a fundraiser at the home of billionaire oil heirs Ann and Gordon Getty--while oil keeps gushing out of BP well in the Gulf of Mexico. Of course politically he can't travel thousands of miles for that purpose, so a trip to a solar panel plant to nearby Fremont was thrown in.

But union workers at the Solyndra factory were told to stay home for security reasons.

"It's with no pay [emphasis mine] and we have no choice," construction worker Adam Bracamontes told Kate [Thompson, a KRON-TV reporter]. "We have to take a day off and come back Thursday. We don't get to meet the President. We're the workers and we don't get to see him."
California's unemployment rate is 12.6 percent.
