Union clout not strong in Congress

For decades unions have generously contributed to the campaign funds of Democratic politicians, as well as supplied volunteers for campaigns.

Still, the Democrats couldn't get a stridently pro-union approved to serve on the National Labor Relations Board.

Meanwhile, organized labor represents just 7.2 percent of the private workforce.
