This is rich. The same man who was the first politician to call for a special election to fill the US Senate seat eventually filled by Rod Blagojevich appointee Roland Burris is the campaign chair for the Democratic nominee for that same position, Alexi Giannoulias.
As soon as Durbin figured out a Republican, such as Mark Kirk, could win the election he called for, he changed his tune. What a weasel.
Wait...it gets better.
Giannoulias was at Durbin's Springfield home this afternoon for the announcement. But the Chicagoan, who won the state treasurer's office touting his banking credentials, is still silent about the shaky financial status of his family-owned Broadway Bank.
Less than a week before the Democratic Primary, the bank signed a consent order with state and federal regulators to raise millions of dollars in new capital, hire an outside firm to oversee Broadway's senior management, and restrict dividends. When confronted about the problems--Alexi has not worked at the bank for four year--he said he would discuss it after the election.
But which election? The primary or the general? Giannoulias: Another weasel.
I haven't been able to discover what Durbin said to the media about post with the Giannoulias campaign, but I wonder if he said it was "a dream come true," which is how Durbin referred to planned transfer of 100 terrorists to the proposed Gitmo North prison in northwestern Illinois.

I have no idea where this comment vanished to--from Omnibus Driver.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I'd like to see him take a lot more heat for the Bright Start disaster. I have no idea how he keeps dodging that particular bullet.
