Ill. Supreme Court: No pension for ex-guv George Ryan

The Illinois Supreme Court ruled this morning that former Illinois Governor George H. Ryan, who is serving a prison sentence at an Indiana federal prison, is not entitled to a state pension. Until his conviction, the Kankakee Republican was collecting a $197,000 yearly pension. Ryan's attorney, Jim Thompson, also a former GOP governor, had argued that Ryan was entitled to $70,000 in annual pension pay--that figure had been derived from his service in lower level public service jobs when he was presumed to have not committed crimes.

Ryan was governor from 1999 until 2003, he was convicted on various fraud charges involving his two terms as secretary of state.

Other than a social security check, it's believed Ryan has no other source of income.
