High speed rail that isn't

A major news story this evening is the plan by the Obama administration for a high speed rail network to be initially financed by $8 billion in federal funds.

There's just one teensy problem, as AP tells us:

Though the White House billed the program as "high-speed rail," most of the trains won't reach the speeds seen in Europe and Asia.

Just as we have an economic stimulus bill that isn't a stimulus.

But we may have medium-speed rail soon.
