Sea lions abandon San Francisco's Pier 39

Shortly after the 1989 Bay Area earthquake, a group of sea lions, which eventually numbered more than 1,700, set up camp at Fisherman's Wharf at Pier 39. They quickly added to the tourist appeal of the wharf.

As for myself, I preferred the sea lions to the mimes.

Well, what nature giveth, nature taketh.

They're gone. And no one knows where they are now.
