Ditka endorses Patrick Hughes for Obama's old Senate seat--CORRECTED

Personally I think they should have held off on this announcement until early next week when the 2016 Olympics vote was in the rear view mirror, but the Patrick Hughes campaign announced today that Chicago Bears legend Mike Ditka, the Coach of America, will endorse the Hinsdale real estate developer in next year's Illinois US Senate primary.

But then again, "Da Coach" is bigger than the Olympics.

US Rep. Mark Kirk of Highland Park, a moderate Republican, is still the frontrunner in this race, but the Ditka endorsement will help Hughes, even if it only gets his name on tonight's TV evening news throughout Illinois.

As for the Illinois Republican Party, the announcement lets the people of the Land of Lincoln know that there is a viable GOP in the state.

The Senate seat they are running for was once held by Barack Obama.

UPDATE Oct. 22: "Da Coach" says he did not endorse Hughes, he only agreed to serve on his finance committee.
