The good news is that I'm staying in a lovely motel 50 yards from the shore of Lake Huron.
The bad news is the "Service Engine Soon" light came on--and won't switch off. The car sputtered a bit on the Mackinac Straits bridge.
I'll have someone look at it tomorrow.
UPDATE August 28: My car has a bad valve, but there are no parts for it anywhere near here. Japanese cars aren't popular in Michigan. Heading home soon, my Nissan should be okay for the trip.
