Washington Nationals update: Manager fired

When I last took a look at the Washington Nationals, the team was on pace to "top" the woeful record 43-119 of the 2003 Detroit Tigers.

The Nats are playing a little better now, they've improved, and now the Nationals are on pace to lose only 110 games.

So what do they do? They fire their manager, Manny Acta, and replace him, on an interim basis, with former Chicago Cubs manager Jim Riggelman, a DC area native.

Typically, a mid-season changing-of-the-guard leads to a short term improvement. Teams usually revert to their losing ways soon enough.

UPDATE: Read all about, from the perspective of a Nationals fan. The Nats are worse than they appear.
