SEIU's pervasiveness in Oregon

Today's example of the pervasiveness of government unions comes from the Pacific Northwest.

Local 503 of the Service Employees International Union represents 40 percent of Oregon state employees.

In 2007, The Oregonian named the local its "Wallet of the Week."

THE ISSUES:
The union has made its biggest mark on issues related to state government such as funding of state agencies and services, matters involving the Public Employees Retirement System, and collective bargaining.

CONTRIBUTIONS TO LAST YEAR'S LEGISLATIVE CAMPAIGNS
SEIU usually is among the top five donors to legislative campaigns in Oregon, and 2006 was no different. They gave more than $315,000 to 2006 campaigns. All of that went to Democrats, and that also is typical for the group. The single biggest recipient was the House Democrats political action committee, Future PAC, which received $88,000 in cash. Most of the other contributions were in in-kind donations such as surveys, campaign literature, and postage.

Here we go again: Government unions conspiring to expand government--with the complicity of the Democratic Party.

Who is representing taxpayers?
