Two Democrats are considering primary challenges to Sen. Roland Burris (D-Blagojevich). The man appointed to fill out the remainder of Barack Obama's Senate term hasn't declared that he is a candidate for a full six-year term, but he is expected to run in next February's primary.
Alexi "The Boy Banker" Giannoulias formed an exploratory committee last month for a possible Senate campaign. As you'll read in the below posts, Illinois' state treasurer has a few skeletons in his closet.
So does my congresscritter, U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Evanston), one of the most liberal members of Congress.
Schakowsky's husband, Robert Creamer, is a convicted felon who served five months in federal prison after pleading guilty to kiting checks while serving as executive director of the Illinois Public Action Council, a consumer advocacy group. Schakowsky, who was not implicated in Creamer's crimes, was a IPAC board member when hubby was committing fraud. In 2002, Creamer was the field director for Rod Blagojevich's Democratic Primary campaign for governor.
ABC 7 Chicago has a story about Schakowsky's possible run, but none of this juicy stuff made it in. Hey, maybe next time.
Schakowsky was an early backer of Barack Obama's presidential campaign; Creamer was an instructor at Camp Obama in 2007, a series of training for campaign volunteers.
UPDATE March 30: The Chicago Sun-Times' Laura Washington, a big lib, covers the Senate race, and others, in her column today. Like ABC 7 Chicago, she omits the Schakowsky and Giannoulias skeletons.
Hat tip to Pat Hickey.

There's nothing good on TV these days.
The local tv media has made it painfully clear that they lack any journalistic curiosity, or integrity for that matter, and stay away from criticism of public officials unless painfully obvious that trouble is afoot.

Janice is a woman whose husband committed bank fraud, she will run against Alexi who helped his family bank's mobbed-up customers steal a Grandmother's home at the edge of Chicago's Greektown. Those Democrats have one heck of a party.
ReplyDeleteThey are all Rod Blagojeviches.
