Card check vote may be held off until summer

It looks like the Orwellian-named Employee Free Choice doesn't have the votes to make it out of the Senate now. Many publications are declaring the same thing, but here is what ABC News' George Stephanopoulos says:

Congressional supporters introduced the Employee Free Choice Act, the so-called "card-check" legislation, with more than enough co-sponsors -- 223 -- to pass the House.

But that won't happen anytime soon.

Missouri Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill's observation Sunday on "This Week" that "card-check" can't clear the 60-vote hurdle was reinforced today by wavering Democrats -- and at least one Republican -- who aren't quite ready to face the wrath and spending of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., told reporters today that he doesn't support the current form of the bill introduced by Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Ia., today ...meaning more GOP votes for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., to find.

Even Al Franken's expected entry to the Senate won't make the difference.

It looks like, at least for now, card check has been checked at the door.
