One of the few good things Rod Blagojevich has performed as governor was his issuance of an executive order renaming Interstate 88, formerly the East-West Tollway, as the Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway.
That's the view motorists enjoy when the enter the road just east of Silvis, Illinois.
The only problem with the highway is that it is a toll road.

Speaking of toll ways, I thought
ReplyDeletethat was only supposed to be
temporary? Here it is some 50 years
later, and Illinoisans are still
"Plagued" with them.
The great conservative economist Milton Friedman said something along the lines of "There is nothing more permanent than a temporary government program."
ReplyDeleteIs that a "pay to play" toll road? Does Blagojovich get any kickbacks from it?
ReplyDeleteAs you say though, it's nice that he named it after the great Ronald Reagan.
I live in bitter gun and religion clinging PA, where Fast Eddie Rendell wants to make existing non toll roads, toll roads. It has truckers and northern PA civilians up in arms. I'd love to see a shoot out up there with all those old fashioned racist hicks, and Fast Eddie.
Nothing is sacred under Blago--everything is suspect.
ReplyDeleteInterestingly, although he was not implicated in anything improper, Blago's toll chief quit in December--after just one month on the job.
New Illinois tollway chief resigns
Seems anything that he touches becomes tarnished!
ReplyDeleteSadly, I used to follow Illinois news better, but only recently paid it attention thanks to this fiasco! (Mom was born in Peoria, her Dad lived in Dixon and met Reagen at a swim club there) My brother also used to live near Chicago and teach in the Naperville area, but moved to St Louis about 10 years ago.
