Senate Sergeant-at-arms not expected to give Burris trouble next week

Accompanied by dubious credentials, Rod Blagojevich's pick for the US Senate, Roland Burris, plans to show up at the Capitol in the hopes of being accepted as Barack Obama's replacement.

In another weird Chicago coincidence, the man in charge of granting floor priviliges to the upper chamber is Terrance Gainer, former head of the Illinois State Police and a former Republican candidate for mayor of Chicago.

Yeah, Burris knows him. And Gainer says he doesn't expect trouble when Burris shows up on Capitol Hill on Tuesday.

But isn't it a real shame that only Illinois can botch a Senate appointment?

We want a special election!

  1. Any state is capable of botching a Senate appointment.

Only Illinois can make it look so easy.

He'd better not, because we'll cry like babies and he'll be really, really embarrassed.

    Burris will sue...

    Damn right we will!
