Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius removed herself from consideration for a post in Barack Obama's cabinet, says she wants to focus on her state's budget problems.
Or is it possible that she made the announcement because she knew an offer was not coming?
Democrat Sebelius has been the Sunflower State's governor since 2003, term limits prevent her from running in 2010. There has been speculation that she may run for Sam Brownback's Senate seat in two years, the Republican has already said he won't run for reelection.
However, for no reason I can think of, other than her being a tad boring, Sebelius is no longer viewed as a rising star for the Dems. In January, the she was chosen to give her the Democrats' response to President Bush's final state of the union address. Various media sources state that Sebelius was a finalist to be Barack Obama's running mate.
If Sebelius decides to run for the Senate, she faces tough odds, despite her popularity. Kansas has not sent a Democrat to the upper chamber since the 1930s, and since achieving statehood in 1861, Kansas has elected only two other Democratic senators.
