Bill Brady's run for governor in 2006 ended when he lost the Republican Primary to then-State Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka. Perennial losing candidate Jim Oberweis took the silver.
Brady couldn't overcome his biggest obstacle--lack of name recognition.
That will be less of a problem for the Bloomington state senator next time. Brady, fresh from winning reelection--he ran unopposed--sent an e-mail to supporters that he plans to run for governor in 2010.
Amazingly, the incumbent, Democrat Rod Blagojevich, is considering running for a third term. It's widely believed that is "Blago" under federal investigation. Name recognition is a problem for the Chicagoan. His approval ratings are at a meager 13 percent.
