We went to the Chaifetz Arena on the campus of St Louis University to watch the debate with 10,000 others and the reaction to Palin was like watching your team win the super bowl. Even Joe Biden found himself grinning like a guy with a big crush on a girl who finally said hello to him.

Then when it ended, Sarah Palin and her family came to the arena, drove up to the main floor in their huge bus. It was 'out of this world' fun. You can't fake a reaction like the one she received, so, yes, the focus groups did give her the nod no matter how tepid the vaunted political panels would like to say otherwise.

  2. Palin was great at connecting with people and articulating her executive and naturally wonderful personal strengths. She is a WOW!

However, Joe Biden was classy, fierce, on point, rhetorically sharp, balanced, courtly and wholely in command -unlike his empty suit Ipod (’load him with stuff and he’ll play anything’) of a running mate.

Biden won the debate on points and a Phyrric Victory for Camp Obfuscation . . .I mean Obama.

  3. I disagree Pat.
I'd call it Palin by a nose.
He didn't entertain us with the normal "Biden Gaffe".
She stood her ground and proved she's no airhead, as was advertised.
In '60, those that listened to the debate on radio felt Nixon had clearly won. Those watching on TV knew differently. I think the image of Biden grinning like a Possum eating briars while Palin pointed out his primary attacks on Obama was priceless, and hurt him in total points.

    Advantage- Palin.

The lowest point for Palin was when Biden showed emotion while talking about losing his wife and daughter and nearly losing his two sons in a car accident and all she could do right afterwards was give us that big grin and repeat her talking points. Whatever you think about Biden or if you want to argue that he was faking it (which did not appear to be the case), that was an opportunity for her to show she's a real person who can show emotion and sympathy rather than a talking head who has had facts shoved into her brain that she can't wait to spew out, and she blew it.

Today, conservative columnist David Brooks wrote:

"Was this woman capable of completing an extemporaneous paragraph — a collection of sentences with subjects, verbs, objects and, if possible, an actual meaning?

By the end of her opening answers, it was clear she would meet the test."

The founding fathers, including great orators like John Adams, and writers like Jefferson, Franklin and Paine, would be appalled to see the depths to which this nation has sunk in setting the criteria for one of its highest officeholders.

Why wasn't Trig in bed? Why did Gov. Palin have her little daughter carry a newborn around? Why isn't this being mentioned?

Frank Luntz is so great. He is data driven. I wouldn't have known why Senator McCain is in the lead in some states without seeing this video. Well done.
